No 2011 Celebration for Tampa Bay Black Veterans

For years , retired banker, Bob Samuels coordinated a special day to honor black veterans in the Tampa Bay area.

His event usually came around Veterans Day and included speakers and workshops on how to sign up for health services, housing and education benefits that are available to veterans.

There is no event this year, 2011, specifically honoring black veterans. Instead, Samuels, a cancer survivor, shifted his attention to organizing a town hall forum on prostate cancer in December. He said organizing events is time consuming and he couldn’t manage both this year.

  1. It’s still Veterans Day and each Veteran should be honored by it, no matter their background. Thank you to each and everyone of you!
