20,677 American Flags Mark Tampa Bay Veterans Service

Volunteers had the American Flags placed before the morning sun rose above Tampa's skyscrapers.

The 20,677 American flags are flying at a downtown Tampa park Friday, December 2, 2011. A ceremony is planned at 11 a.m.  The flags represent combat veterans from the Tampa Bay area who are serving or have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The display is set up at MacDill Park, 100 N. Ashley Drive, on the river front and is sponsored by Fifth Third Bank and the Camaraderie Foundation.

The display’s purpose is to create a stunning visual reminder of military members who have served and  sacrificed for the country and the freedoms all hold dear.

The Camaraderie Foundation  is a nonprofit which provides private counseling services to post-911 military service members returning home and their families throughout Florida and parts of the United States. The display is set to be dismantled at 1 p.m. Friday.
