One highlight of the International Special Operations Forces week in Tampa was a mock hostage rescue and capability exercises featuring special forces from 10 different countries.
From the land and water, the teams assaulted a fake village – set up outside the Tampa Convention Center – to rescue Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn who volunteered to be the “hostage.”
Adm. William McRaven, commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command, told reporters after the exercise that it’s been a great week of exchanging ideas.
The conference also gave international special operations forces a chance to talk with industry representatives from the National Defense Industrial Agency.
The mock capability exercises also included fast-rope drops from a helicopter and jumping from airplanes at high altitude.
