Tampa Bay Area Veterans Day Ceremonies and Events

George Buck Sr., a veteran SeaBee, and his son George Buck Jr., an Airborne veteran, shared their Veterans Day weekend by taking a cruise aboard the SS American Victory – a Merchant Marine ship launched in 1945 – serving in WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Pinellas County – Florida

Bay Pines VA Ceremony – 11 a.m. –  The ceremony will feature musical performances with a special presentation by the Suncoast Vietnam Veterans of Pinellas County called “The Last Patrol,” a firing salute, taps performance, and military vehicle display. Guest speakers will include Suzanne M. Klinker, Director, Bay Pines VA; Michael Prendergast, Executive Director, Florida Department of Veterans Affairs; Master Sgt. Jovanny Galiano, United States Special Operations Command; and Michael Jernigan, a Marine Corps Veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Bay Pines VA, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., North Bay Pines, FL.

Gulfport Beach Volleybal Benefit- 5:30 p.m. Community members are invited to a beach volleyball benefit with music, food and drink on Gulfport Beach. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at 5:30 p.m., the Steel Horse Band will be performing a benefit concert at the Gulfport Casino at 5500 Shore Blvd. S. with doors opening. The show beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets for the concert are available at the door and all proceeds from the ticket sales will go to charity. Hillsborough County – Florida

Veterans Memorial Park 48th Annual Tribute – 11 a.m. – The Master of Ceremonies scheduled is Walt Raysick, President of the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County, Inc., and the keynote speaker will be Colonel Scott DeThomas, USAF, Commander, 6th Air Mobility Wing, MacDill AFB. JROTC Cadets from the area high schools to perform drills. The POW/MIA empty chair ceremony to remember those who have not yet made it home. A Wreath Tribute will be presented by the Gold Star Wives, Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Families of America.Veteran’s Memorial Park, 3602 N. US-301, Tampa, FL, 33619.

Temple Terrace Celebration – 1 p.m. – Veterans Day celebration with guest speaker Council member Mary Jane Neale. The King High Naval Junior ROTC will present the colors, and Cheri Tysver will sing. Temple Terrace Community Arts Festival, Riverhills Park, 401 S Riverhills Dr., Temple Terrace, FL.

Chargers Vs. Buccaneers Celebration – 1 p.m. – A salute to service celebration is part of the NFL Game Day. In addition to a flyover, fans will get a military tribute pin and are asked to bring donations of coffee, non-perishable food, hygiene products, tube socks and CDs and DVDs. The non-profit organization Support The Troops, Inc. will collect the items outside all gates and club entrances and shipped directly to U.S. military bases overseas. Sarasota County – Florida

Sarasota Veteran’s Day Parade – 10 a.m. – The event starts at Main Street and Osprey Avenue with a marche west along Main Street to Hamel Park on Gulfstream Avenue. Then there will be a ceremony featuring guest speaker retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. George Hardy, the youngest Tuskegee Airman.

VFW Post 8118 Observance 10 a.m. – Bring your own chairs to settle in for this Veterans Day ceremony saluting all Veterans. Patriot’s Park, Venetia Bay Boulevard just off Rt. 41 south of Roberts Bay on the east side of Rt 41 Venice, FL.

  1. All manifestations and events are for remember and honor veterans, fallens included. This is wath we may do for them, even if, we understand, it is little compared their sacrifices and deditions for us. claudio alpaca
